Dr Jay (Jacinta) Bull

Jay is an experienced massage therapist and acupuncturist working from her own clinic in Cornubia.

Her areas of special interest are mental, digestive and musculoskeletal health. Beyond this, as a registered acupuncturist and allied health professional, she’s adept at working with many other clinical presentations. The challenge of working with complex cases and clients who present multiple health concerns is something that excites her… because seeing you feel better and be able to get back to doing what you love is an amazing gift to be able to give clients.

Growing up as a dancer and obsessive overthinker, Jay has always been fascinated by biomechanics, how things work, and why… or why not.

Recurring bouts of debilitating illness as a teenager and young adult introduced her to integrative medical practitioners who combined biomedicine with nutrition, herbs, acupuncture, reiki, flower essences and more. The experience of using different therapies to complement each other changed her life and outlook on “medicine”.

Inspired by the knowledge gained through her own journey, Jay commenced formally studying health sciences in 2001. Her natural curiosity and desire to see all things working as well as possible felt suited this pursuit. She’s since explored learning opportunities with mentors from all around Australia, as well as overseas.

The combination of Eastern and Western perspectives throughout her education enabled Jay to develop an exceptional level of insight into the dynamic state that is wellness.

Chinese medicine theory underpins the majority of Jay’s clinical work. Its way of looking at the full picture of a person – rather than as a single disease or process – creates a paradigm in which clients can feel truly heard and valued.

Jay combines her gentle style of Chinese acupuncture with tuina (Chinese medical massage), remedial massage, trigger point needling (sometimes referred to as “dry needling”), electroacupuncture, stretching, remedial exercises, cupping, liniments, gua sha, moxibustion (moxa), infra-red heat, aromatherapy, diet and lifestyle advice as appropriate.

She is passionate about teaching skills that enable others to nurture their own physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. After all, who wants to see the same clients walk in the door each week for the next 10 years, with the same problems still giving them grief?

In addition to being in clinical practice since 2003, Jay has greatly enjoyed teaching Tui Na (Chinese medicinal massage) and working with colleagues to run a mentorship program for Australian Tui Na students and practitioners.

Though no longer training or performing as a dancer, Jay still enjoys applying her skills within the performing arts scene. She’s worked for over 10 years with community theatre groups, amateur musicians, theatre technicians, and touring bands including Ball Park Music, Violent Soho, Smith Street Band and The Bronx.
